we grew a total of... 9 pumpkins in the back yard. some of them turned orange.. but some of them did not. when you have 9 pumpkins.. you can't just keep making pie. so far i've made curried pumpkin soup.. and pumpkin & raisin cake. i think i'll turn the others into pancakes and maybe coookies. what else can you do with pumpkins?? also.. i made this reaaaaalllly super delicious bowl with quinoa, tofu, black kale... and other stuff. from the P.O.V. of a chopstick. mm.

OK. so you may know that for quite some time now, I've been dreaming of starting a commune. Well. Now I'm thinking of something more like this. Some sort of yurt adventure camp!! wouldn't it be great? This property is for sale.. $200,000. 10 acres. who wants to invest? I lurrrrrrve it. it could be like a B&B and a camp or a conference center or group retreat.. all those things.

holy crap. i've had DREAMS about this!!! for years! and you know when you ask another person about something you saw on tee vee when you were 4... and they have no idea what you're talking about? that had to have happened like.. 40 times. now i've found it. youtube... the internet.. who could have imagined what an immense impact they'd have on my life. and THIS one! i'm giving up engineering... i want to go into crayon making.

so last week/end i went to calgary to play in the canadian ultimate championships with team winnipeg a.k.a. "swarm". we won TWO GAMES! which.. is not SO bad. came in 14th.. which.. is NOT last. Look how open! I scored a point, which was fun. but i also re-injured my knee.. not so fun. now i have a great big bionic knee brace thing. i'm waiting for the final diagnosis next thursday before getting too upset/excited about the degree of badness. for now, the only trouble i'm having involves my lab-mates & new nicknames... oh, also and mike making me ice the thing every 2 minutes. oh, & for craig re: soundtrack to the swarm movie. here are my thoughts (you can listen to them on the player to the right): 1. the temptations - can't get next to you 2. swollen members - too hot 3. beastie boys - sure shot 4. silversun pickups - lazy eye 5. m.i.a. - paper planes 6. goldfinger - feel like making love 7. dee-lite - groove is in the heart 8. the streets - fit but don't you know it 9. yeah yeah yeahs - rockers to swallow 10. jane's addiction - stop 11. of montreal - grondlandic edit 12. the blow - come on petunia

so this weekend i drove the 9+ hours (when lost) to minneapolis for an ultimate tournament. surprisingly, the city is suuuuper nice! there are swimmable lakes everywhere, and the houses are beautiful. speaking of beautiful houses... the fields that we played on were typically used for polo. you know? that sport with horses, balls & sticks? anyways. there were these HUGE mansions surrounding the fields. you can see some in the background of the picture here: well, during one of our games, one of them burned to the ground! isn't that the craziest thing you've ever seen? we played while little bits of ash rained down on us. in other news, my garden is growing! everything except for the beets.

fishflies, ultimate & the fringe

it's fishfly season in manitoba.. these little suckers are everywhere! this weekend i played in the flatlands ultimate & cups tournament (FUCT). this picture is from one of the 'spirit' games played after we beat a team from thompson 15-0. i believe the call was "tandem" "spoon" "princess" and then the winners face off in a dual of "bear, ninja, cowboy"... cowboy beat the bear. we did play some actual ultimate this weekend too. this was the open mens final game.. strike (winnipeg) vs. mangina (regina). strike won. it's also fringe festival time in beautiful manituba. this is when there are many many independent plays going on in the exchange district. there are beer tents, buskers, lots of delicious food & many other strange goings on. + this week there is NO RAIN in the forecast.. which is good because the lawnmower was stolen & we're hoping the grass dies.

i planted a garden. the beets and the cucumbers aren't growing.. well, that is to say.. i don't know what baby cucumber plants SHOULD look like. there are things growing.. but they might be weeds.. i joined the winnipeg ultimate touring team. this means i'll be playing in nationals in calgary in august! yowza. i went home! we drank wine. i got bronchitis. well, i guess i already had bronchitis. i told a joke: A man is flying in a hot air balloon and realizes he is lost. He reduces height and spots a man down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts, "Excuse me, can you tell me where I am?" The man below says, "Yes, you're in a hot air balloon, hovering 30 feet above this field." "You must be an engineer," says the balloonist. "I am," replies the man. "How did you know?" "Well," says the balloonist, "everything you have told me is technically correct, but it's of no use to anyone." The man below says, "You must be in management." "I am," replies the balloonist, "but how did you know?" "Well," says the man, "you don't know where you are, or where you're going, but you expect me to be able to help. You're in the same position you were before we met, but now it's my fault." nadia thought it was REALLY funny. i miss nadia. ok. i don't remember what we were actually laughing at.. i'm pretty sure if somebody told a funny joke.. it wasn't me. freshly picked ontario strawberries.. drrooooooool. but then i had to leave and go back to winnipeg.. where the mosquitos were waiting for me... so i immediately left for mike's cottage at falcon lake. wait.. what's that thing in the background... aaah! why would you...? i don't understand... ? uhm. this swing was in the backyard.. right behind the bedroom window. it moves.... even when there's no wind.... .... the curtains and wallpaper matched... in a weird way. the next weekend we went to a wedding. ehem.. a wedding. there was a petting zoo there.. with goats. and then it was july 1st! holy crap.. now it's summer. stay tuned for gimli trip/folk fest/vee & bryan visit! an exciting month to come!
