The Reluctant Manitoban

i totally defended.

we grew a total of... 9 pumpkins in the back yard. some of them turned orange..

but some of them did not. when you have 9 pumpkins.. you can't just keep making pie. so far i've made curried pumpkin soup.. and pumpkin & raisin cake. i think i'll turn the others into pancakes and maybe coookies. what else can you do with pumpkins??

also.. i made this reaaaaalllly super delicious bowl with quinoa, tofu, black kale... and other stuff.

OK. so you may know that for quite some time now, I've been dreaming of starting a commune. Well. Now I'm thinking of something more like this. Some sort of yurt adventure camp!! wouldn't it be great? This property is for sale.. $200,000. 10 acres. who wants to invest?

I lurrrrrrve it. it could be like a B&B and a camp or a conference center or group retreat.. all those things.

holy crap. i've had DREAMS about this!!! for years! and you know when you ask another person about something you saw on tee vee when you were 4... and they have no idea what you're talking about? that had to have happened like.. 40 times. now i've found it. youtube... the internet.. who could have imagined what an immense impact they'd have on my life.

and THIS one! i'm giving up engineering... i want to go into crayon making.

so last week/end i went to calgary to play in the canadian ultimate championships with team winnipeg a.k.a. "swarm". we won TWO GAMES! which.. is not SO bad. came in 14th.. which.. is NOT last.

Look how open! I scored a point, which was fun. but i also re-injured my knee.. not so fun. now i have a great big bionic knee brace thing. i'm waiting for the final diagnosis next thursday before getting too upset/excited about the degree of badness.

for now, the only trouble i'm having involves my lab-mates & new nicknames... oh, also and mike making me ice the thing every 2 minutes.

also, i'm off to calgary tonight to play in the canadian ultimate championships!! wish me good luck and no scraped knees! the scab from my knee boo-boo in minneapolis has just barely come off...

so this weekend i drove the 9+ hours (when lost) to minneapolis for an ultimate tournament. surprisingly, the city is suuuuper nice! there are swimmable lakes everywhere, and the houses are beautiful. speaking of beautiful houses... the fields that we played on were typically used for polo. you know? that sport with horses, balls & sticks? anyways. there were these HUGE mansions surrounding the fields. you can see some in the background of the picture here:

well, during one of our games, one of them burned to the ground!

isn't that the craziest thing you've ever seen? we played while little bits of ash rained down on us.

in other news, my garden is growing! everything except for the beets.
